Filtering and Monitoring

In March 2023, the Department for Education (DfE) introduced new Filtering and Monitoring standards. Alongside the new standards from DfE, the UK Safer Internet Centre (UKSIC) has published its new Appropriate Filtering and Monitoring Definitions for 2023.

As of September 2023, there is also new statutory guidance as a result of updates to Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE).
These updates explicitly reference UKSIC’s Appropriate Filtering and Monitoring guidance, and make repeated reference to filtering and monitoring throughout. They also state that Designated Safeguard Leads should understand the filtering and monitoring systems and processes in place.

Education Lincs use Cisco Meraki for content filtering, which complies fully with the latest standards,  and while there is some traffic monitoring, schools may feel that they require more monitoring functionality.

“Monitoring allows you to review user activity on school and college devices. For monitoring to be effective it must pick up incidents urgently, usually through alerts or observations, allowing you to take prompt action and record the outcome.” – DfE

Education Lincs has partnered with Senso Remote Monitoring and Management to offer Safeguard Cloud Online monitoring that enhances your safeguarding efforts and abilities.
